The West African Examination Council (WAEC) gave in to pressure and changed the part of its May / June 2018 exam that ran up against Juma’s prayer on Friday.
The subject concerned is Chemistry 1 and 2, initially scheduled from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018.
WAEC Nigeria director of public affairs, Demianus Ojijeogu, confirmed the slight amendment following reactions from Muslim Rights Concerns (MURIC).
“For the sake of those who go to the mosque, the exam will be delayed until they return.
“The newspaper will be delayed until 2:30 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. when Muslims return from the mosque,” Ojijeogu told Premium Times on Saturday. ”

DAILY POST reports that Ishaq Akintola, president of MURIC, said it was an “injustice” to Muslims, who he said had become “an endangered species”.
According to him, WAEC fixed exams during the Jummat period for a few years which are “illegal, unconstitutional and illegal.
